You wouldn’t know it is winter from the weather we have been having. This has been a warm and very dry fall. The snapdragons still have plenty of blooms, although the plum trees have finally lost most of their leaves. We haven’t even gotten a frost yet! Rain has been really lacking. We got a little bit a few weeks ago, but that is it so far. They say we may get some tomorrow. We’ll see. I can’t really complain, because it has been gorgeous for the most part, just a bit unusual.
The greenhouse is very sparse this winter. I just haven’t had the time or energy to take care of things during the week after work. I do have a self-watering planter with arugula planted, along with a few sprouts of “Webb’s Wonderful” lettuce. Arugula seems to thrive here this time of year and it can wait until the weekend to get refilled with water. If you have never tried arugula, you should! It has a nice, peppery taste and is very good in a salad. It definitely doesn’t like hot weather, but it grows wonderfully here in the winter.
